What to do if you need a bed.
Obtaining a place at one of our centres is fairly straightforward. We recognise that once you have made your mind up to find help it is important to move as fast as possible. We will do all we can to offer you a safe place in Teen Challenge but there is an application procedure that must be followed in order to guarantee the best help for you and those already in our homes. This is how it works:
- Male applicants should contact the Admissions Department for an Application Form. The number to phone will depend on where you live:
- Inside the M25 corridor please phone 0208 5533338
- In North East Scotland please phone 01651 891627
- In the rest of Scotland please phone 01361 890271
- For all other areas in the UK and N. Ireland please phone 01269 842718 ext 1.
- All female applicants should phone 01269 844114 ext 1.
- Return your competed form to the appropriate office as soon as possible.
- An interview will be arranged when you will either be able to visit a centre to see at first hand what we can offer you or an interview may be arranged in your area, when possible. You will be able to ask questions and speak to other residents if you so wish. The meeting will also give us a chance to assess your needs and to come to a decision whether we are confident that we can help you. Most people who are interviewed are offered a place but we are unable to accept persons suffering from psychological illnesses.
- After the interview you will be asked to phone the office to let us know whether you wish to accept a place if it has been offered to you. It is important that you make this choice without any pressure being exerted upon.
- If it decided that that Teen Challenge is the right place for you we will send for references from your GP and other suitable persons supplied by you.
- It is important that once you have accepted a place you make sure you ring the appropriate office every day to confirm that it is still your wish to enter the Teen Challenge programme. Doing this will keep your name on a priority list and will ensure that you are given a bed as quickly as possible.
- Waiting lists sometimes exist. We encourage you to see this positively – it is a sign that Teen Challenge offers good help because less people drop out of the programme. It is so important to you that you succeed in the programme you have chosen and Teen Challenge will do everything to help make this happen. You will be given advice at your interview on how you can begin to prepare yourself for coming into Teen Challenge if you need to wait for a place.
